Veterinary Students Externship Program

The Hebrew University veterinary teaching hospital welcomes veterinary students who wish to participate in clinical rotations with our forth (final) year veterinary students.

The externship period consists of a 2 weeks rotation in one of the hospital's departments.

The departments that may be visited are:

  • Small animal internal medicine
  • Small animal surgery
  • Small animal intensive care and emergency
  • Equine Medicine
  • Anesthesiology
  • Oncology
  • Cardiology
  • Neurology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology
  • Radiology
  • Exotic animals

Work routine

The externship student is expected to be present according to the work routine of the students in the department he or she are assigned to. The daily routine in each department is different, and will be explained on the first day; however, the extern should arrive to the hospital by 8 am, and join the students in the rotation. Students in externship programs take part in all the activities of the department as observers and will be expected to participate in general hospital activities such as seminars, ward rounds etc.

Tuition

No tuition is required.

Every extern has to have a valid medical insurance.

Dress code

The extern is expected to be appropriately dressed and wear a clean, ironed white coat with a name tag at all times. For rotation in the surgery department a scrub suit is needed, and for rotations in the equine department overalls and boots are required.
The hospital does not provide coats, scrubs or overalls.

Vaccination

Because we are located in a rabies endemic area, proof of rabies vaccination (received within the previous 2 years) or of adequate rabies antibody titer is required.

Housing

The veterinary teaching hospital is unable to provide for accommodation.

Insurance

It is the extern’s responsibility to make sure he/she has valid medical insurance.

Interested persons should submit a written or electronic application to Ms. Revital Ben-David.

The applications should include:

  1. Completed and signed application form.
  2. Curriculum vita.
  3. Proof of rabies vaccination.
  4. Digitized passport photo.

Clinical rotations are scheduled on space-availability basis.

After all the information is processed the applicant will receive an answer by electronic mail.
